In two words: ALC delivered. The intelligence of the design and quality of the workmanship is superb. The project was completed substantially on budget (less than +5%) and ahead of schedule by two months—even with additional work like a roof replacement.
What truly set ALC apart was their design process and management. Over six months, Annabella and Flavia developed an 80-page detailed plan, covering every aspect—structure, layout, electrics, plumbing, heating, audiovisual, and decoration. Their proactive, hands-on management meant no delays, and every hurdle was addressed seamlessly.
The fact that Annabella provides a single port of call for the entire process is rare and invaluable. It eliminates the usual issues of multiple contracts and ensures the design works in harmony with construction. Post-handover, her team’s responsiveness continued to impress, addressing any issues within hours.
I have since recommended her to three of my colleagues at Skadden, and they’ve all had the same experience.
The master bedroom had an elegant headboard of subtle silver-gold color and texture. The soft light colored curtains could black out for best sleeping, or reveal sheer shades for light but privacy.
The side tables had discreetly hidden compartments to tuck away jewelry or glasses at the end of the day.
The closet space provided hanging space and easy storage.
The master bath had the same emphasis on low and long, with the bath tub tiled so connect to the double sinks. The shower also served as a steam for deep relaxation.
The second floor rooms we used as guest spaces or for a nap. Adjacent is a long patio with flowers to separate from the neighbors, but with a view of trees that flowered much of the warmer seasons. The bath provided me with my own spa space.
The surprise was the full lower floor kitchen and dining space that allowed the cook in our family to be inclusive with our guests. Again metallic soft colors felt calming and allowed for an emphasis of art works. This space included a powder room near the stairs, and a bathroom with shower for another guest/housekeeper space.
The entry to the house had a divide that allowed a view into the home. The shelf, to sit on to take off galoshes, continued the long, low extend to become a desk where I spent my working hours.
Annabella magically transformed the living room into an elegant set of horizontal surfaces, broken up by niches filled with ceramic artwork. The ceilings are spacious, and on a sunny day, the farm door windows bring the light streaming in. Her specialty is providing depth and shape to each of the living spaces with recesses and hidden lighting. At night, the living room comes alive as the hidden movie projector turns on and the top quality sound system takes you away.
We loved living there and can’t wait to go back.
